Ageing: The Struggle for Independence

A photoessay by Julie Pallant

This photo essay offers a glimpse into the life of Helena, an 84-year-old woman, living alone with chronic pain and limited mobility. Her story reflects the quiet strength of many older citizens whose experiences often go unnoticed.

In our fast-paced society our elderly are often forgotten and ignored - isolated in their homes, hidden behind closed doors. Many have physical conditions limiting their mobility and access to opportunities for socialising within the community.

The aim of this photo essay was to raise awareness of the challenges that our elderly citizens face each day to maintain their independence.

By looking, listening, and reaching out, we can help create a more caring and connected community.

I have created a video of this photo essay with the images set to music.
