The Age of Loneliness
A photoessay by Julie Pallant
This photo essay focuses on the loneliness experienced by many of our elderly citizens.
In our fast-paced society our elderly are often forgotten and ignored - isolated in their homes, hidden behind closed doors. Many have physical conditions limiting their mobility and access to opportunities for socializing within the community. Hearing and sight impairments also impact dramatically on the elderly person’s ability to communicate with family and friends.
My aim with this essay is to highlight the hidden epidemic of loneliness among our elderly citizens and to inspire viewers to reach out, connect and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their family members, friends and neigbours who live alone and lonely.
I have created a video of this photo essay with the images set to music.
